New XR Simulation: Diabetic Retinopathy (DR)

We are excited to introduce our latest XR simulation: Diabetic Retinopathy (DR), developed together with medical experts. The experience includes two realistic stages, medium DR and severe DR with Diabetic Macular Edema (DME), offering an authentic look into how this disease progressively affects vision.

Why Diabetic Retinopathy?

DR is one of the most common complications of diabetes and a major cause of visual impairment. People living with DR often experience blurred or patchy sight, reduced contrast, distorted shapes and altered color perception, especially in combination with DME. These symptoms are difficult to describe and even harder to imagine without seeing them for yourself, which is why immersive simulation is such a powerful tool.
Our XR simulation makes DR visible and tangible. Users can directly experience how visual perception changes at different stages of the disease. This creates a deeper, more empathetic understanding of the visual challenges patients face in everyday life.

Where the simulation makes an impact

This experience supports clinical training and medical education by offering an intuitive way to understand patient symptoms. It enhances communication between healthcare professionals and patients, because visualising the condition makes explanations clearer and more relatable. It also helps raise awareness in nursing, caregiving and public health settings, where understanding vision-related challenges is crucial.

Our mission

With this new simulation, we continue our mission to make the invisible visible and transform medical complexity into clear, relatable experiences. XR allows us to bring understanding, empathy and accessibility into healthcare education in a way that traditional methods often cannot achieve.
